12 February 1912 — Cairo
Monday. 12th [February 1912]. The result of Lord K’s evening walk without a hat on that he has a bad cold & is quite hoarse this morning & is depressed. However in the afternoon he had to go out to see the Princess Royal when her Dahabeeyah arrived wh it did about 4 o’cl. It was anchored just outside the garden—between that & the Semiramis Hotel—almost exactly where we were last year in Mr Whitaker’s Dahabeeyah. Eda & I watched it coming up from the balcony outside our rooms in this house & saw Lord K. & his secy disappear when called to her. There was nothing else for us to see as when anchored only the flags on the boat are visible. Eda & I took a short walk before tea & left cards on friends. Sir Fred Milner also went on board to see the Princess & all said that she is bearing up bravely– Poor thing!
