19 February 1912 — Cairo
Monday. 19th [February 1912]. Rain & wind all day & very cold. Lighted the fire in the sitting room & sat by it all the morning. At 3.30 Eda & I went to the Museum with Sir Wm Garstin returning to 5 o’cl tea when the party in the house all assembled to see the last of our host who was leaving by 6.30 train for Khartoum. He was feeling very unwell and was rather taciturn so that the party was gloomy– Sir John Maxwell & Mr Cheatham joined us but that did not add much to our cheer. At last the time came for Lord K. to be off & he bade us goodbye saying a kind word to Eda & me & was off. We who are staying in his house till Saturday shall miss him & are sad at the ending of such a pleasant visit. Capt. Fitz entertained us & we were a quiet little party—Eda, Mr Ralli, Sir Wm Garstin & I & sat talking till eleven.
