2 March 1912 — Rome
Saturday. 2nd [March 1912]. At 10.30 I went to Hotel Royal to join Eda & Miss Hanbury who wanted to show us her nursing school for nurses under the Blue Sisters at St G. Laterano. We drove there in a cab as it is some way off. We admired the cleanliness & order of the place & the glorious view from its windows. It is paid for by Miss Hanbury who is very rich & is a ’vert to the R.C.s. She is a nice woman & does much good– Back to the Palace in time to change my dress for lunch with the Queen at 12—& sat afterwards with her & her little Court till 2.30 when she retired to her rooms & I went to call on Lady Vivian & Violet who are staying at the Palace Hotel close by—& on to Da Laura at the Villa Malta sat with her awhile & then took a walk & back to the Palace by 5 when the Vivians joined me & I gave them tea.
