7 April 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 7th [April 1912]. Easter Sunday. Went to morning service with Violet Vivian, Sir F. Milner & Derrick. Miss Metcalfe went to service at St Marks being an R.C. Mr Pandolfi Ralli went to the Greek church being an Orthodox & we met again at luncheon. I went out just to see Angela—returned to tea to which came Ld & Ly Shuttlesworth & girl & Miss Head & Miss Ffoulkes & later Cts Valentine Robilant Mocenigo—a very pretty smart young woman, daughter of our old friend Pss Olga Mocenigo. When they were all gone I went to call on the Edens & saw Mr Eden for the first time since his illness of which he now seems quite recovered tho’ he has quite lost the sight of the eye wh was operated on. In the evening we played patience. Miss Metcalfe took leave of us as she starts for London tomorrow morng early. She stayed with me on her way back from India & is a friend of the Bruces of Abbottabad who introduced me to her by letter. She is a plain little person very quiet & gentle & seems to have no family left & to be rather lonely.
