8 April 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 8th [April 1912]. Miss Metcalfe had left before we began 9 o’cl breakfast. Lovely day. I took Mr Ralli & his niece Mrs Byng to tea with the Montalbas that they might see Clara’s watercolour drawings—but they did not appreciate either the watercolours or the family so that I regretted having taken them there. The dear Montalbas, tho’ unlike other people are charming & clever & kind & good that one regrets they should not be valued. They dress queerly, but are clever & industrious & good natured & one has grown very fond of them. After leaving them I took Mr Ralli for a giro in gondola leaving Mrs Byng to walk here from the Piazza.
