12 June 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. [12th June 1912]. Nora Hallé came to model & Mr Wilson paid us a visit but I had too many interruptions to do any work. Mrs Curtis & Miss White Jervis called also Mrs Sauer & her girl (S. Africans) who wanted to see the pictures. They are of Boer origins—very nice quiet people. In afternoon Nela & I went out called on Bss Reinelt & then went to a small party given by Mr Byard in his house near the 3 bridges. There were only Dss Canevaro, Pss Clary, Countess Sanbury & Css Robilant besides the Humphrey Johnsons & Mr H. Brown. Mr Byard sang a great many songs to us with very great taste. Mr Rolt accompanied him on the piano. A very pleasant quiet little party. Directly after dinner we went to a party given by Miss Chaffey at the International Hospital “to see the lilies,” which are really in perfection. A good many people were there but it was not easy to distinguish them in the dark or with the few coloured lanterns hung up in the pergola. We got home abt 10.30. I had a long talk with a sick sailor an non unionist—very sensible & entirely against the Union.
