1 July 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 1st July [1912]. My birthday once more. Had a visit in the morning from Mr Price & took him home in gondola & then went to the Piazza & thence walked to Hotel Victoria to have lunch with Angela Reinelt as a birthday treat. She gave me 300 lire & begged me to buy myself a souvenir. Came home at 2. At 4 went to the Arbibs & had tea with them in the garden wh sad to say is sold & is to be built upon & the Palazzo Bellindes will thus be shorn of its ancient glory. From here Mr Arbib & his friend Mr Barchiera took me to a nice old Palazzo in Piazza Margherita to see the work of a Signor Tamburlini a sculptor who works in metal & enamel &c &c. He is also a good musician & is writing an opera. He showed some very good work. His wife has also a studio with good embroideries most tastefully arranged & beautifully worked. The pair are evidently genius such as are still to be found every now & again in Italy. After this to the hospital to arrange little matters with Miss Chaffey & so home to dinner. The Palazzo at Sta Margherita has still good old painted travi & the walls have the carved wooden mouldings which went round to hold the silk painting.
