27 August 1912 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Tuesday. 27th August [1912]. Rather better weather. In the afternoon the young people were able to play lawn tennis– Lady Eva Quin brought over Miss Hughes who is staying with her—an ex lady in waiting of Pss Marie Louise. We walked round the garden with her she was in great admiration of it and she is right for Blanche has certainly done wonders with it & though the season has been so desperately wet the flowers are out in masses, especially the calceolaria wh flower high in large tubs & do not seem to feel the absence of sunshine. After tea in the drawing & when the 2 ladies had gone Blanche & I went off for a walk to the village & paid social calls at cottages there.
