26 September 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 26th [September 1912]. Miss Hallé came & we worked all the morning at enamels. Afternoon went to the Hospital to meet Lady Trotter & show her over. Home at 5 to tea to wh came Mr James the musical critic, Miss Hilda Trevelyan, & Mrs McDonald (USA) whose acquaintance I made at Khartoum—a rather handsome woman, kindly & original. She was full of gossip about a Lady Cunard, the Asquiths, Dss of Rutland & a madcap daughter Lady Diana & other smart & frivolous people who are staying at Venice at this moment–
