12 October 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 12th [October 1912]. I had a busy morning & visits from Mr Montalba & Mr Price who came to tell me that Mr Zuccato who has been here 39 years as unpaid British Consul is having the Consulate taken away from him. Glad as we shall all be to have an Englishman here as Consul one is sorry for Mr Zuccato. We talked about getting up an address to him from the English here. Mrs Curtis also came to see me. Corise & Eda & Sir Edward went off to Chioggia for the day & I took Sir Arthur off in gondola after lunch & we went on to tea with the Montalba family & saw Clara’s lovely pictures—different views of Venice. Had a visit from Mr & Mrs Vickers at present our Consul at Lyons & he confirmed the news of Zuccatos departure & says the Consul at Milan is now here to arrange it.
