7 March 1862 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Friday. 7th [March 1862]. At ten oclock the mother received a letter from T.M.G. containing IBG’s answer—“Scarlet fever– No immediate danger—come if you like—break intelligence quietly”– She immediately resolved to go out to Königsberg– She sent over for Baron Hambro who gave her an introduction to a friend in Berlin. Blan. & Con. went in to have luncheon with Mrs Somes and to have their dancing lessons. Mrs Nevile & Maria came here to luncheon. At 3 oclock Maria went to London with CES. I went with Mrs Nevile. We went first to the White Lodge—but could not get in (Mrs N. used to live there in the time of Ld Sidmouth) and then we went to Mortlake Church to see Ld Sidmouth’s grave. After that Mrs Nevile took me to 7. Suffolk St there I was joined by Blan, Con. & Ecca, soon after by Rd & Maria, CEG & C Schr. we there took leave of the mother & returned to Ex. Hse bringing Maria home to dine with us.
