21 June 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Saturday. 21st [June 1862]. Late for breakfast (letter fm Ivory)—every body except Merthyr had done. Went up to Tool room to print but found nothing to do. I then went with Blanche to pick some flowers. Picked flowers while she learnt Shakespeare. By the time I had put up my flowers the luncheon bell rung– Went up to compose type—at about 3 Ivor and Arthur arrived and then Merthyr & they went out to play cricket—the professional having just arrived– At 6 Connie brought the little Ponsonbys and they had tea & played about—at 7 Blan: & Con. went to singing taking Granville and May. I was taking Ethel and Arthur home when we met the madre (also Lady Louisa Ponsonby). Lady L. turned back with the M. I took the 2 children up to the Vicarage and then went to Mrs Pynes– Had a little chat—talked about dr Augustus. Dinner at a little past 8– After dinner went & sat in Luffs room with Arthur—he smoking. Sat in the hall & listened to boys whistling & playing guitar– Bed at 11.–
