25 June 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Wednesday. 25th [June 1862]. Breakfast at 9½– Blanche read the Psalms to me and then I went out to Mrs Allen and gave her my tapestry to finish—also collected some more rose leaves for “potpourri.” Wrote letters to Aunt Mary etc and heard Blanche practise from 12. to 1. Mr Bernard Smith came down from London by luncheon time and after lunch Blanche and I went for a drive in Luff’s poney carriage. We went nearly to Christchurch. Thro’ Throop and home by the other Chh road. Had 5 oclock tea & Mr Bernard Smith then started off for town again. I sat on the lawn and read and wrote letters till dinner time. It was nice and hot & I sat out till dinner time. I played the Zouave march with Arthur who played the bugle. The 3 Ponsonby boys came down to see the cricket this afternoon. Connie & Merthyr went out riding at 5½– I went to bed at 11.
