12 July 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Saturday. 12th [July 1862]. Did not wake till 9½ & then had breakfast in bed. Went up directly I was dressed to print & printed off a sheet. Ivor went off to Wales to do High Sheriff by the 7 train– After luncheon I again printed till 4½ and then I had a letter fm Maria written by herself tho’ in pencil, went to the Ponsonbys and asked if Ethel & Arthur might come down to tea with me– They came and as we were going home by Mrs Whitelocks we met the carriage with Temmy & Connie & getting into it drove home. I took the children to see the cuckoo, gave them tea and then played croquet with them– There was a heavy shower of rain which drove us in but did not last long—& a beautiful rainbow appeared. After the shower I took the Ponsonbys home and then saw Luffs little boy also calling at the Pynes & Miss Warehams– Rather late for dinner wh made Arthur rather angry– Schr arrived from town by the 9. train and Arthur went up by mail– I went to bed as soon as he was off–
