Thursday. 17th July [1862]. I was awakened by a tremendous rush and found Blanche & Connie chasing each other round my room– We were all rather late in consequence of the fuss– I went up and printed all the morng a title page & a page of contents– After luncheon I laid down on my bed & fell asleep. When I woke up at 3½ it was raining hard—it rained more or less the whole afternoon so I did not go out—heard from FEB. in afternoon– Had 5 oclock tea in the hall—dinner at 8—read Pickwick out loud in the eveng part of Mrs Bardells trial. Wrote to FEB—to bed at 11½– | |
