19 July 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Saturday. 19th [July 1862]. This day we expected Kate & Cecil but had no letters from them. I did not print in the morng, Connie took my place– In afternoon the carriage went to meet 3 trains but the A’s did not come– We went to Mrs Pynes to tea– B & C went out riding– After dinner the M. read out some of Cowper lines on his mothers “portrait”—which I had never heard before & wh were very affecting. We had a telegram to say Cecil was coming at 11.30 P.M. He came & stayed up for him & he gave us the Welsh papers to read about Ivor’s High Sheriff business & dinner. I went to bed at about 1½–
