22 July 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset | |
Tuesday. 22nd [July 1862]. Breakfast about 10– Cecil & Mr Hambro played billiards in afternoon and then Montie went out & ordered the tea cart with tandem & the dog cart– (In the morng I printed off a page etc–)– Cecil went with Montie in the tea cart and Mr Hambro drove me and Kate– We went to Pamphill & saw the cricket match between Dorchester and Wimborne but as it rained we did not stay out very long– We had tea in the hall & the gentlemen practised cricket. Montie as usual discussed punting at dinner—& was rather cantankerous– We had a great discussion about this hse Montie maintaining there were not eno’ bed rooms for the size of the lower rooms– We went to the smoking room for a short time & then went to bed rather late– Kate came to me as the night before.
