19 August 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset | |
Tuesday. 19th [August 1862]. Very late in the morng. I read Homer with Temmie and wrote some of French kings for the S.H.S. I sat out in the garden to do this. At 11½ I went & printed till lunch. At 3 oclock I went to the christening of Luffs baby for wh I stood godmr & Connie the other. I afterwards walked as far as the gate with Lady L. Pon: and dawdled abt on the terrace till dinner. After dinner I read out loud out of the “Martin Chuzzlewit” the “Lodger’s” scene—bed at 11– | |
