17 September 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Wednesday. 17th [September 1862]. A very exciting game took place today between Canford & Wimborne Clubs and each being 53 1st innings and there not being time to play it out it was a drawn game. I feel quite sad to think that today is the last match of the season. The Wimborne men gave 3 cheers as Ivor went off the ground and it sounded too melancholy. We had a very quiet eveng but a jolly dinner as Mr Fetherstonhaugh took me in to dinner. The Ponsonbys dined here and we had some singing and we made a dreadful noise imitating cocks & hens–
