18 September 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Thursday. 18th [September 1862]. We all left Canford (the Fether: we 3 & Ecca) at 12 oclock and went by train to Aakers Wood. We got there at 1½ and Mr F. drove us in the bus, Blanche & Connie going outside as there was not room inside. We had luncheon & talked to the children and then Mrs F. drove me & Ecca in the Bus to Moreton, Mr Framptons place. The old people were away but Mrs F. showed us all the place which is very nice and substantial but not pretty. The gardens are beautifully kept and the views all round most charmg. We went to the church which is very ugly architecture and wonderfully decorated inside but extremely high church. We spoke to Miss Blenes, Mrs Frampton’s sister & had tea. At 5½ we started in the Bus for the station and arrived home just in time for dinner. Ivor & Mr Stewart went to Aakers Wood by the 8.35 train and so we were alone all the eveng. I read Martin Chuzzlewit to the Mother and went to bed before eleven. Mr Schr went to play a match at Southampton by the 1st train in morng.
