21 September 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Sunday. 21st [September 1862]. Was down very late. Went to church twice. Mr Ponsonby preached each time. After eveng service I and Car walked to the kitchen garden and on the terrace talking about dear Augustus. We had some tea at 5 and the Ponsonbys came. Alice came down to tea and was greatly delighted with Ethel & Arthur Pon: hugging and kissing them the whole time. We then went to the smoking room and I gave a dictation in [passage in author’s shorthand] to Ivory & Con: till dinner time. After dinner I played a little and then Con:, I went to bed at 11.
