26 October 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Sunday. 26th [October 1862]. Down at 10½ before any of the boys. Went to church. Mr Francis did the service. His sermon was not quite so good as before and in the commandments– He read out “nor his ox, nor his Hass” and made matters worse by correcting himself. None of the boys were at church. Merthyr & Arthur came by the mail last night. We went to church in the afternoon and Montie also. Mr Fletcher did the service. After church I & Blan: went with Montie to the stables and then to Luffs– I also enquired after poor Gerard the dairy-man. We sat and talked a long time with Luff eating christening cake and biscuits and then I went to Mrs Pynes. I found Miss Kemble there and staid a few minutes to drink a cup of tea. I then went back for Montie at the farm and we came home together. I went & laid down on my bed and falling asleep I was a little late for dinner– After dinner Con: & I & IBG had some fun and afterwards Merthyr came in and we went up to Blanches room & bullied her, after a good deal of romping we went to bed. I went down to the Smoking rm to say good night.
