28 October 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Tuesday. 28th [October 1862]. Was very late & had my breakfast brought up to me. After breakfast I practised my concertina and printed till luncheon. Went to the school. I had such a very bad headache that I was obliged to leave before 4 and came home. Luff then asked me to put up flowers in the glass epergne which I did in the conservatory which took me till 5. I went and laid down & bathed my head—as it ached very much & only went down again in time for dinner. Mr & Mrs C. Hambro arrived at about 6. At dinner there was a great discussion about Gibsons painted Venus—almost every one disliked it. Singing in the eveng. Mrs Hambro came to our rooms in the eveng. To bed very late, fine in morng rain aftern.
