3 November 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Monday. 3rd [November 1862]. I and Mrs Fetherstonhaugh had breakfast at 10. She played the piano & I the concertina all the morng with her and sang “Blue Beard.” At 1 oclock Connie drove her to the station. I then put on my things and went to see Mrs Allen taking Snips with me. From thence I went to Mrs Patey, I met Revd Thom: Patey and then went in & had a long chat with his mother. I then went to see Mrs Poasin and Mrs Latimer and so home to luncheon. After luncheon (Blan: & Con: went and took the shooters their luncheons) I went up to the printing and set up a page of contents. I there heard that Mar: Sandberg had come over to see us from Bourne. I had a chat with her and went out to see Mrs Wareham and saying good bye to her went on to the Pynes. I found Mrs P. at home & 2 friends with her. I bid her a hasty adieu and rushed home to see Ivory who I supposed would leave by the 6 train but found he was not going. I practised a little concertina & played for Arthur’s cornet. Mr Fetherstonhaugh then came in and sat talking to me till dinner. After dinner I & Con: played and Monty would make us try to dance. Ivor & Blanche had a game of romps banging each other with cushions and then Arthur acted being tipsey and made fun till bed time. We 3 then went to Ivors room & I tried to get my turquoise ring back fm him but was unsuccessful. We went to bed & I sat up arranging letters etc till 3.
