5 November 1862 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Wednesday. 5th [November 1862]. Got down by 11. Had a letter from Agnes Schr telling me of the birth of Augusta’s baby. At 12 I & the M with Schr started for the Exhibition. It was a horrid foggy day. It was a 2/6 Bazaar day and we stayed there till it closed (4 oclock). The M bought me a genoese filigree silver crown for the head and a piece of German china for Lady Rawlins. When we arrived at home we found Maria waiting to see us and we all then made chocolate in our little sitting room and I unpacked china. We also found Temmie arrived and very savage at I & Con: having a room to ourselves which Con: had asked for in the morng. After dinner I sat in the drawing room reading Hood’s Poems. Schreiber & the M. went to sleep—all the others slunk off to bed. I saw at the Exn the “Reading Girl” for the 1st time & greatly admire it–
