15 November 1862 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Saturday. 15th [November 1862]. I was very late and could not get anyone to help me to dress—at last I got Maria’s maid. Con: & Ivor went off to the Exn: in the poney carriage at 11 and Blan:, the M., Maria and I went at about 1. The first people we saw on arriving there were Mr L. Ashley and Mr Frank Smith. They walked a little way with us till I & Maria walked off together as I was to show her the trunks. The others joined Ivor who was making purchases. He bought a beautiful sideboard & several chair stripes and lustres– I walked about showing Maria every thing I could think of till we met Schr and we stayed till 4½. There were quantities of people being the last day– We then went to Jermyn St & brought Ivors bay down and bought ourselves some buns & biscuits. Ivor returned to dinner & we had tea in the schoolroom. In the eveng Ivor gave me a turquoise ring he had taken from me—bed at 11. Blanche slept with me–
