17 November 1862 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Monday. 17th [November 1862]. Down at 11. found Con: & Hilld were going to the Crystal Palace. I wrote letters & finished the bit of knitting I had in hand. After lunch I went to finish my letters and Maria & Blan: forgetting me went for their walk. I went up at 3½ to the schoolroom and practised & talked to Ecca a deal about Mr Clark. Then I went up to the nursery and played with Alice. When Con: & Hillyard returned at 4½ we went to the schoolroom & had tea and made chocolate. Blan: & I then sang and played to Hillyard till dinner time. At dinner we had a great & noisy discussion as to the intrinsic merits of Mrs Pyne & Mrs Luff. To bed at 11–
