19 November 1862 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Wednesday. 19th [November 1862]. Was very late & found Alice running about the dining room, after breakfast I took Alice up to the nursery & played a little with baby, and went & practised & looked over my dresses till lunch. Blanche & Con: had both bad colds and did not come down till after lunch. After lunch I & Maria went over to Ashburton Cottage & stayed a long time while she gave her directions. I then called in upon Mrs Keep– Having a very bad head ache I went to the study and sitting in the arm chair fell asleep. I woke at 5½ and Con: then brought me some chocolate and I afterwards wrote some letters. At about 7 I went up & played the concertina & Ecca the accom: After dinner I read out loud fm Martin Chuzzlewit bed at 11–
