7 December 1862 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Sunday. 7th [December 1862]. Had a letter from Felicia & was quite in time for breakfast. I walked down to church with Temmie & the M. & Schr. Blanche & Con: went to St Johns with Ivor. We met Mr & Mme Goldschmidt going down to church & left them going to St Johns. A beautiful sermon from Mr Henley– Only I felt very bad & could hardly get home. I went with Temmie to Roehampton chapel wh beginning at 3½ it was quite dark when we came out; there was also a baptism—a young man of about 23– Temmie was very much frightened at having to come home in the dark and walked with her parasol up & I in the middle of the road as a precaution against garrotters. It certainly was very lonely as we only met one man on the way from the village to our house. Had tea in our room & I had a little nap. I finished a letter to Car before dinner– After dinner we had some music & Con: played some of Beethovens sonatas. To bed at 11. Ivor came to my room but did not stop as he goes by the 700 train tomorrow & has to be up early.
