| 29 December 1862 — Uffington House, nr. Stamford, Lincolnshire | |
| Monday. 29th [December 1862]. I, Con & F went over to Normanton to see Lady Aveland—we got there for lunch & after lunch they made us play croquet in the hall by means of contrivance by sticking the hoops into little bits of flat wood– We left pretty early & coming home went to the nursery where the children had prepared a Xmas tree from wh they gave us each a bonbons box. We then had 5 tea in the saloon & at 5½ Sir Richd & Miss Musgrave arrived– Sir Rd took me into dinner & I found him very amusg & very agreeable– There was whist in the eveng & I played the piano– F wrote letters—I went to her room & put up her hair & talked till late. | |
