2 January 1863 — Uffington House, nr. Stamford, Lincolnshire
Friday. 2nd [January 1863]. This was the day of the servants ball– Felicia & Mr G. Welby rode over to Orton and I did not go out– I wrote and sat in the saloon where I fell asleep for an hour. Mrs Welby, who came at 1 ocl had been out driving with Lady Musgrave and I then walked in the avenue with them– The M. expected Lady Aveland & could not go out but Lady A. did not come– At about 9½ we all went to the servants ball to dance and I opened the ball with Ward. I danced some with Sir Rd & as it was a lovely moonlight evening we took occasional trips out of doors– We had supper at about 12 & enjoyed ourselves—soon went to bed–
