14 March 1863 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Saturday. 14th [March 1863]. Was very late in the morng & had our lessons of Mme Dupuis. At 1 received a note from Baroness Hambro for Con: & I to lunch next door & have a game of billiards. We went & Con: & Mr C. Turner had a game before luncheon. Met Mrs M. Turnbull. A vulgar person but good natured. Having an insane affection for pets & a horrid little pug that she had with her. She has been 20 years in India. We had lunch at 2 & returned at 3. We found Monty just arrived. The M & Schr went to town & Monty sang & had tea with us. Con: & Ria went to Hospital—returned at 5. All sat in my sitting room till Monty went at 6½. I worked in eveng & went to Bed at 10½—had bath.
