20 March 1863 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Friday. 20th [March 1863]. In the morng I practised 1st up stairs & then down till 12½ when I got ready to go to town with Maria. I did not wait for any luncheon but went over to Marias by 1¼. I found her still at luncheon so I had some there. We started in a brougham at half past and took little Alice and her nurse with us. We went by appointt to Smiths to have our hair cut and having dropped Maria I went & called at the Aldersons. I stayed there only a few minutes & then Blossett came with me to Smiths. On arriving there we found we had mistaken the hour & so we went on to the Soho Bazaar & did the rest of our shopping. Coming home we eat biscuits & did not get home till past 6. We came in here & had tea in my room. To bed pretty early. Day of 3rd reception at St James Palace–
