28 March 1863 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Saturday. 28th [March 1863]. To day took place the annual Cam: and Oxford boat race from Mortlake to Putney. But as it was rowed at half past nine in morng I did not go. Everybody else went except Temmie & I. I went over and fetched in Alice who was delighted to come. Sir Richard Musgrave, Mr Preston & Mr Evans came to lunch and we expected a great many others who did not come. After luncheon we had a little music & by 7 they had all cleared off. Mollie, Mr Fletcher & I took a walk on the Madiera walk & he left by 3 oclock train. Mollie & Blossett left by 4½ train. Blanche’s cold was very bad & rather increased by going to the boat race wh was most unsatisfactory as the Cam. lost– I went with Maria to help her to find ferns and between reading, practising and working the sewing machine passed the time till dinner. Went to bed at 10 very tired indeed.
