24 May 1863 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Sunday. 24th [May 1863]. Up early & to church in Audley St a good sermon by Mr Eyers & again in the same church a sermon by the Bishop of Argyle. Remarked a very curious old man at church, evidently mad, who when the Bishop said in his sermon that all men should trust in God, said aloud “Oh! Oh.” & as if struck with an idea went flop down on his knees where he remained during the rest of the sermon—at intervals hitting his head & his breast at the mention of “sinners” etc. He also sang loudly & out of tune. Mr & Mrs Bertie came to 5 tea & sat with me & the M. till 7. Blanche & Ecca went to see Blossett. To bed early. Blanche slept with me–
