31 May 1863 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Sunday. 31st [May 1863]. Down early—but waiting for Mrs Ham: was late for X & sermon from Mr Ponsonby. After lunch we all went out in the Una boat & came in to tea at 5. Went to X at 6½ & sermon from Mr Francis. Sat next to Mr Hambro & Mr Webber at dinner. After dinner I adorned Mrs Hambro with all the rings & bracelets I could find for fun. Sang & played in the eveng. Arthur gave us sham lectures on the human frame for instance “The pulse among the ancients was weak hence the introduction of bracelets & armlets. (These here bangles are false!)” showing my arms! Went to Mrs Hambro’s room in the eveng.
