1 June 1863 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset | |
Monday. 1st June [1863]. Down pretty early but just too late to make tea. Made Monty sing. Went out to see men playing racquets. At 1 Ld Rd Grosvenor, Val Hambro, Mr Danier left. The benefit club paraded round the terrace wh we came out to see. Sat on the grass with Montie & Mrs Ham: till lunch & had some cyder cup. After lunch sat out again & then took Mrs Hambro in the Una. (Mr & Mrs Fetherstonhaugh came just before luncheon.) Mrs Webber, Arthur & Con with Monty came in the Una. We put Mrs Hambro on shore ½ way down the river to go to the train & returned to have some tea. Col & Mrs Digby & Miss Scott came just before tea. I sang to Nellie Scott & then walked on the terrace with her till dinner time. Was down in time to dinner. Went in with Mr Webber & sat nr Arthur. Had singing & playing all the eveng till 1 when to bed. Mrs Fether: came to my room to have some drink. Undressed by moonlight a lovely night. Mrs Webber taught me how to dye my eyes with a smoking hair pin. Mrs Fetherstonhaugh came to my room for seltzer water—then to bed– | |
