3 June 1863 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Wednesday. 3rd [June 1863]. Down very late. The Webbers left at 9 oclock so I did not see them– After breakfast Arthur sang to us & then the Digbys & Nellie went out with Connie & Arthur in the boat & I stayed at home, sang & wrote letters– The Digbys & Nellie left at 1 but I managed to miss them & did not bid them good bye. I sang till lunch. Mrs Fetherstonhaugh left after lunch & Connie drove her to the station. I sat talking to Luff & went with him to unpack a new fountain Ivor bought at the Exhibition & then I went to the Pynes– Mrs Whitelocks called at Lady Louisas but not finding her in went to see Mrs & Miss Wareham. There was a great fire on the heath some miles off we saw blazing in the distance. I sat & wrote on the bowling green till 8 oclock when we went to dinner. After dinner we heard the fire was out, sat down quietly. Connie & Ivor sang & I pulled grey hairs out of Arthurs head—more than 3 doz. bed at 12½.
