8 December 1863 — Hendrefoilan, nr. Swansea, Glamorgan | |
Tuesday. 8th [December 1863]. Very late for breakfast & found on comg down Amy, Mr Thomas & Mr Dillwyn departing. After breakfast we played battle tennis in Mr Dillwyns study & when I was tired I copied out music. We had lunch at 1 & Capt. Franklin left. It was a cold disagreeable afternoon & we did not go out but I, Connie & Mrs Dillwyn sat round the fire talking & askg riddles till 4½ when the carriage came & we went off to Singleton 2 miles from Hendrefoilan to stay with the Vivians. They gave us T and showed us some new games till dinner. I dressed 1st. Mr & Mrs Norris dined (& the latter took me in) also 2 Mr Davis’– We had Christy Minstrels in the eveng & we all sang & played. Bed at 11½. We had gt discussions abt ghosts both at dinner & before gog to bed wh made us quaky. | |
