10 December 1863 — Singleton, nr. Swansea, Glamorgan
Thursday. 10th [December 1863]. Pretty early and a lovely day, we spent the morng at work & I played & so did Miss Eden– After lunch Etta & I played a game of croquet against Miss Eden & Schr—we had a very long game but it ended in our winning– Directly after the game at abt 4 we walked up to Park Wern. Connie rode with Dulcie & the M drove with Mrs Vivian– We got there in time for T & found Mr & Mrs Vaughan (she is a deceased wife’s sister) of Reola. Etta & Dulcie left us at Park Wern & returned to Singleton. Being rather tired I laid down in my room & had a doze till dinner at 7½. Mrs Welby dined but Mr W. was prevented from coming from a bad cold. Mrs Dillwyn & her son Harry dined also. We sang choruses in the eveng and tried over Welsh airs and Mr H. Vivian gave Connie & me each a book of Welsh airs. I sat up rather late writing and reading.
