14 May 1864 — 11 Cavendish Square
Saturday. 14th [May 1864]. Was very late as Miss K. came & sat talking to me in my room & when I got up, dressed at once for riding. I rode with the M. & Ivor. I started on Belladonna but when I got a little way I found the saddle was so torn that I was obliged to go back & get on the new chestnut. There was a drawing room held today & therefore the Park was not so full as usual, we rode with the Turnors & Capt. Hayter but only rode once up the Row & back. Saw Hippy Damer walking. We got home just in time for luncheon. Arthur & Tony Hamond came to luncheon & Sir Richard & Miss Musgrave called just after. At 3½ I went out driving with the M after having seen IBG’s new phaeton come to the door. We went to Ken: Palace to call on Dss of Inverness but found her out. Went to Philips to get my new bangles mended & bought 3 Chinese ones. At 6 we drove in the Park & saw the Pss of Wales driving. We went to 3 Eaton Place W. to see the Ark: Minnie & Dick came to the door & spoke to us to say how sorry she was not to be able to go to the opera with me tonight. Went home to dinner & Con: I & the M went to IBG’s box to hear “Faust” wh I enjoy in spite of a bad headache. Saw Molly & C. Alderson there. Schr came to fetch us away & we got home before 12–
