21 October 1864 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Friday. 21st [October 1864]. I was rather late for breakfast. Practised from 10 to 11 & then went up to print. I at once proceeded to wash the whole ink part of the machine till lunch & after lunch I returned & then Merthyr came & helped me. At 4.30 I left off & went down to tea. Miss Kemble & Blanche returned from Freshwater at 2.30. At 5 Merthyr left for Southampton. Miss K & I came up to my room to write letters & talk till dinner time. After dinner I played the piano & Blanche sang a little & played for me to sing. Bed at 10 & bath. Took 2 pills wh made me feel very sick & also the banging of the doors kept me awake. At abt 3 there was a brief violent thunderstorm wh however did not last very long. I felt very unwell all night & slept badly. Merthyr gave me a blue enamel locket with a diamond star and a gold chain.
