22 October 1864 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Saturday. 22nd [October 1864]. I felt so unwell that I did not get up till 5 oclock in the eveng when Blan: Con: & Miss K. came up & had T. in my room & a long talk abt Freshwater. At 7 oclock there came a Telegraph message from Ivor to me to say he was coming home at 9. We did not wait dinner for him & he came at abt 9.30. Blanche & I talked to Luff in the long gallery and then I played the piano till Ivor came. We 3 sat with Ivor while he was having his dinner & I went to bed directly after. Miss K. came & sat a little while in my room & then Blanche. I had hardly gone to sleep when Ivor & Con: came into my room & Ivor gave me a little gold pencil case he had brought me from town. Ivor [passage in author’s shorthand].
