23 October 1864 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Sunday. 23rd [October 1864]. Breakfast at 10. Church at 11. Mr Combes read & Mr Bettles preached from St Matthew 22 & verse 11—a very good plain sermon. He did the whole eveng service & preached. During the service he missed his spectacles & stumbled out of the readers desk & nearly fell in going across to ask Card to fetch them. After church I & Miss Kemble walked to see Mrs Whitelock & then round by the village to Mrs Pynes. As she was not in I left Temmie there & walked towards the New Cottages to meet Mrs Pyne. I met her & turned back & came & had T. Connie also came & we stayed till 7—& it was quite dark when we walked home. We sang hymns all the eveng & I & IBG walked up & down the hall talking.
