25 December 1864 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Sunday. 25th [December 1864]. Christmas Day. I started to go to church with Miss Kemble but sent her on and intended to wait for Blanche wh ended in my going in to Ashburton Cot: and finding Monty at breakfast I took him down to old Putney church. On the hill we past a fly which took us down to the church. We met Blanche at the door & went in together & Schrei: came afterwards. I had a headache the whole time and felt unwell. Mr Henley preached—not a good sermon. It was extempore and ranted. Ivor came to lunch and Arthur. I did not go to church again but just as Ivor, Blan: Capt. E & Connie had started in a cab & I was going up to lie down Mr & Mrs C. Gurney arrived. I took Alice into my sitting room and had a long talk with her and then we 2 & Monty went to the schoolroom where M. smoked. At abt 4 we went in to see Maria and came back to tea after which the Gurneys left & Arthur went back to Horace Chapmans. I sat between Ivor & Monty at dinner & had great fun—Monty constantly kissing me under the mystletoe. We sang hymns all the eveng until quite late & then went to bed.
