19 January 1865 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset | |
Thursday. 19th [January 1865]. Had hall tennis in the morng. Sewed clothes for the tableaux– Directly after lunch I went & “got up” as Mrs (Gen) Carver & was just going to act it when Lady Felmer fainted so I waited & Maria made me do it before Aug: Lumley. I went into the drawing room & there “Carverized”—& Mary got better & came in to see it. Ivor came suddenly & dispersed us. At 7.30 the old Ex King of Oude Ak bal od owlah—& Ld & Lady Carmarthen came. Graham V. took me in to dinner & would sit near Lady Car: I had Aug. Lumley the other side & talked to him. After dinner we had tableaux vivants—the 4 seasons. Spring Mr & Mrs C. Forbes—in Paul & Virginia. Summer, Mr C. Gurney & Mr Layard as Rebecca at the Wall. Autumn. Mrs Hambro & Mr C. Gurney as Italian peasants.—Winter Lady Felmer & Ivor in a russian skating scene– Mrs Hambro was the beauty looking lovely with a sheaf on her head. We then went on dancing & danced till 2– Mary did not come to dinner– | |
