21 January 1865 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Saturday. 21st [January 1865]. I was down at ¼ to 11. Mr Dyke & Rd left by 7 oclock train. Ld Sandys also went. Graham V. & Aug. Lumley, Blanche, Lady E. & Miss P. went with Henry L. to Kingston Lacy to see the pictures. I went with Mary & sat in the racquet court to see Ivor & Cecil play. I had a long talk with Mary F [passage in author’s shorthand] etc– & at 5 we came in to a tea of bacon & poached eggs which we greedily devoured as we had breakfasted so late as not to have a luncheon. Cecil went by the 5 train & T. M. Talbot tried to go & getting as far as the station returned. He took me into dinner. We sang & to bed at 12. I “carverized” rather late in Susans room & ended up with “turnovers” in Mrs Damers room.
