22 January 1865 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Sunday. 22nd [January 1865]. I & Mrs Hambro & The Villain went to Mrs Pateys pew– After church she & I took a walk round the terrace & at 1 I came in as it was bitterly cold. The Villain took another turn with Kate. In the afternoon I sat in my own place as most of the others went to Wimborne Minster. After 2nd service we all went to the Vicarage to get a hymn book & then round by Mrs Whitelocks thro’ the farm yard to T at Luffs. We made a horrid noise at T. They all pretended to be my school & I was Mrs Carver. When we got home we found another T in the hall. I did Mrs P’s hair this evening. It is the most wonderful thing I ever saw coming down to her knees. I sat between Monty & Rd Du Cane at dinner & opposite were The Villain & Alice. I talked on my fingers to the V. & had rather fun. After dinner he & I sat on a sofa with Tish & had fun. Before going to bed we sang some hymns, I went to see Susan who was not well & made some arrow root in Mary’s room & to bed rather late.
