11 February 1865 — Ashburton Cottage, Roehampton
Saturday. 11th [February 1865]. The M. & Schrei: came over to breakfast. I sat & worked with Maria. The snow was on the ground it having snowed all night. Maria’s servant went to town & brought my portmanteau back. In aftern I & Maria walked to Roehampton to change a cheque & get some tea cakes. We met Cary Somes & Mrs Layard & on our way back met Cary & Fanny S., they asked us in but we declined. Also met the Ladies Melville. We stopped at Ex. Hse on the way & saw it in the greatest confusion & all the furniture gone & the M. & Schrei: very busy putting it to rights. I went home to T. with Maria. We had dinner without Richard & went to bed early. I was moved from the North Room to Rd’s dressing room & the M. & Schrei slept here.
