Monday. 7th [January 1867]. Rather late. Learnt some “Morte.” Bee read me 18 pages of Lecky. I read her some of Mme d’Arblay’s journal wh we found most amusing. After lunch we knitted & read novels till 3 when I read out a little of Columbus. Monty drove in the phaeton. Mrs Bankes & her son called. Afterwards I practised till 5 T wh we had in Ivors room. I then came up to my room to write letters to Molly, Car &c. and the M sent for me to help her with invitations for IBG’s ball on 25th & so late for dinner. Arthur came at ½ past 7. After dinner I sat in Luffs room with him & Monty. Arthur gave me a letter from Adeline & took my ball & chain which he is going to give to Adeline. He also took my ring wh I hope to get back. He was most affeate & kind– | |
